DETAILED MEASUREMENT OF SHEAR-DOMINANT REINFORCED CONCRETE BEAM USING FIBER OPTIC SENSORS

In this study, a measurement of strain distributions of rebars in the shear-dominant reinforced concrete beam specimens via fiber optic sensors is discussed. After shear cracking, it was observed that the strain in longitudinal reinforcement was greater than calculated value based on Euler Bernoulli Beam Theory, indicating an effect of the bond stress of the longitudinal reinforcements, which is a component of the truss mechanism. The distribution of bond stress, which was calculated on the strain distribution of the longitudinal reinforcements, reached calculated bond strength, and this was consistent with the failure mode observed in the experiment.
