The Effects of a Short-term Workshop on In-service Language Teachers’ Perceptions and Use of Generative AI

This study investigated the effects of a short-term professional development workshop on in-service language teachers' acceptance and intended use of generative artificial intelligence tools (GAI). Participants were 12 secondary EFL instructors who attended a 4-hour workshop which aimed to provide a foundational understanding of GAI and to facilitate a collaborative exploration of how GAI tools could enhance pedagogical practices. Utilizing the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) as a theoretical framework, the study measured changes in teachers’ confidence and perceived usefulness of GAI tools before and after the workshop intervention. Despite the limited duration of the workshop, the findings indicate significant increases in both confidence and perceived usefulness, with all participants expressing the intention to integrate GAI into their teaching practices.
