FGC/FGM/Khafd: A Challenge Against Gender Equality And Genital Autonomy

There are several traditional practices, one of which is Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), involving the removal of female genitalia for non-medical purposes. The severe violation takes place when the female genitalia is pierced during infancy, based on the belief that this is a religious duty to seek redemption from immoral acts. The age range for this surgical procedure is limited to females between 0 and 49. The children, as they grow, never experience her sexual autonomy throughout her youth. After marriage, when the sutures are removed, a painful circumcision happens, which is always left silent due to the conventional procedure. The risk significantly increases during pregnancy, particularly when obstetric complications arise. This specific manifestation of violence persists till a woman remains alive. The laws are enacted to safeguard the rights of children and women. They cannot be placed in a stagnant condition on the verge of a conventional practice. Till date, over 200 million
