A Cyanide-Bridged FeCo5 Square-Pyramidal Single-Ion Magnet
The reaction of mononuclear [CoII(Me6tren)Cl]+ precursors and diamagnetic [FeII(CN)6]4– building blocks affords a cyanide-bridged hexanuclear FeCo5 complex featuring square-pyramidal architecture. The dc magnetic susceptibility data and theoretical calculations reveal that the complex exhibits a well-isolated S = 15/2 ground state composed of c-coupled S = 3/2 Co2+ ions. The ac magnetic susceptibility data further reveal that the complex exhibits slow magnetic relaxation under an applied field due to the presence of considerable easy-axis magnetic anisotropy of the five Co2+ ions. As far as is known, complex FeCo5 is the first square-pyramidal hexanuclear single-ion magnet.
