On the Demotic word “ftft” in Bodl. MS. Egypt. a 3(P), 8, 4

Abstract In this contribution, a new attempt is made to clarify the meaning of the Demotic word “ftft” in Bodl. MS. Egypt. a 3(P), 8, 4. The best solution can be obtained from the meaning ‘to sprout up’. The explanation can be supported by an equally late parallel. The subject of the action is the growth of branches or blossoms of trees, which can be understood as a symbol of fertility. The motive appears in an Osirian context.
