A New Type of Cavities for a High-Power S-Band Multibeam Klystron with Output Power 30 MW

A new type of multibeam toroidal cavities with helical inductive inserts in interaction gap is presented. On their basis the interaction region of high-power 37-beam klystron is the designed having eight-cavities including second-harmonics cavity. According to a one-dimensional model at current 19.8 A per beam and accelerating voltage 85 kV, the output power reaches 39 MW with an efficiency of 64.5 %.

Abstract

A new type of multibeam toroidal cavities with helical inductive inserts in interaction gap is presented. On their basis the interaction region of high-power 37-beam klystron is the designed having eight-cavities including second-harmonics cavity. According to a one-dimensional model at current 19.8 A per beam and accelerating voltage 85 kV, the output power reaches 39 MW with an efficiency of 64.5 %.
