Roll casting of Al-Mg alloy with impurity using vertical type high speed twin roll caster equipped with steel rolls
The applicability of a steel roll with a thin shell for a vertical type high-speed twin-roll caster was investigated with 5182 aluminum alloy used as the casting material. Observation of the strip surface, tensile testing, deep drawing, and metallography were conducted to investigate the cast strip properties. Fe, Si, and Cu were added to the 5182 as impurities to simulate the effects of recycling, and strip casting was conducted. The 5182 and modified 5182 could be cast into strips at a roll speed of 80 m/min.
