The Japanese government’s plan to increase the production of rolling stock during the Total Mobilization Period and the Incheon plant of Nippon Sharyo, Ltd.

This article examines the nature of colonial investment in military industry, which began to increase as Japan&quots continental aggression began in earnest around the time of the Sino-Japanese War. Railroad rolling stock was one of the industries valued by the Japanese government, as it was directly related to the military purpose of transporting munitions. Under these circumstances, we will look at the reasons why Nippon Sharyo, Ltd. built a factory in Incheon, a colonial port city, the process of building the factory, and the actual production of railroad cars. This will help us to understand the so-called problem of technology transfer to the colonies and the nature of colonial local history research.
