Direction of Digital Storytelling for Fostering Primary English Language Learners' Global Digital Citizenship

The purpose of this study is to suggest the direction of digital storytelling methods (DSM) for fostering primary English language learners' global digital citizenship (GDC). To achieve the purpose, this study extracted ways of DSM for fostering primary English language learners' GDC and effects of DSM for fostering primary English language learners' receptive and productive skills in GDC education through scoping study. The findings are as follows: (1) Teachers need to help foster learners' GDC through DSM based on robot-assisted language learning, mobile assisted language learning, video editing programs, web-based multimedia system, and storytelling app such as Toontastic. (2) It was shown that teachers need to design a series of activities such as ‘listen and perform action', ‘listen and draw’, ‘listen and match’, or ‘listen and transfer information’ through AI in education (AIED) systems and tools for learners to actively enhance their GDC in listening and reading activities. (3) In speaking and writing activities, teachers need to enable learners to express their own perspectives and create the sequence of events presented in a narrative related to GDC using AIED tools. From the findings, it was suggested that effective digital storytelling methods using AIED tools and systems should be used for English language learners to improve their GDC during receptive and productive activities.
