An Analysis of the Academic Attitudes and ICT Utilization of the Students in Uzbekistan: Based on PISA 2022

This study utilized the PISA 2022 data to analyze the academic attitudes and ICT utilization of students in Uzbekistan. The research results are as follows: First, the academic attitudes of Uzbek students were generally positive. This can be interpreted as students demonstrating a more diligent attitude to meet the expectations of their parents and teachers in Uzbekistan, where family and societal expectations play a significant role. Second, Uzbek students had high rates of class absences and tardiness, with greater variance among students, likely due to reasons such as ‘caring for family members’ or ‘working at home, the family business, or on the family land.’ Third, the Index of Sense of Belonging at School for Uzbek students was higher than the OECD average. When examined by individual items, it was found that Uzbek students generally had a stronger sense of school belonging than Korean students. Fourth, only about half of Uzbek students owned digital devices, indicating a significant gap in the level of informatization between Uzbekistan and Korea. Fifth, Uzbek students used digital devices less frequently for learning activities, and they were less capable of controlling digital device notifications. Based on these findings, suggestions were made to help the academic adaptation of Uzbek students enrolled in Korean universities.
