A Convergence Study on the Impact Factors of Cognitive Anthropomorphism in Korean AI Companion Dolls on Elderly Users’ Subjective Well-being
As global population aging accelerates, improving elderly well-being has become a critical societal concern. This study examines how AI companion dolls, developed by Korea"s Hyodol Company, affect the subjective well-being of elderly users through cognitive anthropomorphism. We surveyed 295 elderly users and analyzed the data using structural equation modeling. Results indicate that the cognitive anthropomorphism of AI companion dolls significantly enhances elderly users" subjective well-being by promoting intimacy and reducing perceived threat. Intimacy mediates the relationship between cognitive anthropomorphism and well-being, while trust moderates the mediating effect of intimacy. However, trust does not significantly moderate the mediating effect of perceived threat. These findings extend cognitive anthropomorphism theory in human-computer interaction, highlighting the importance of emotional connection and trust. Our study provides theoretical and practical insights for designing AI companion products to improve elderly well-being and quality of life.
