Angle-selective surface based on aperture-coupled frequency-selective surface
Abstract In this work, we propose a dual-polarized angle-selective surface (DASS) based on a compact double-layer aperture-coupled frequency-selective surface. The electromagnetic coupling between the compact aperture layers is leveraged to modify the equivalent permittivity and permeability along the normal direction, resulting in excellent dual-polarized, broadband angle-selective characteristics. Additionally, a novel compact stacking approach is introduced to further enhance the angle-selective performance. By tightly stacking two DASS layers, a double-layer DASS (DDASS) structure with superior angle-selective capabilities is achieved. Both structures are fabricated and measured, showing good agreement between the measured and simulated results. Compared to existing dual-polarized angle-selective surfaces, the proposed designs offer advantages such as a low profile and broadband frequency response.
