Citizen participation and public security policies for protection in the semi-arid region of Bahia

The research aims to discuss the forms of citizen participation in the development of public security policies aimed at rural peoples and communities in the semi-arid region of Bahia. To this end, concepts necessary to understand the reality experienced by these communities regarding public security and how they can effectively participate in decision-making were presented, as well as the responsibility of public agencies in providing tools for community access, transparency and accountability. The methodological proposal used is qualitative research, with analyses from the perspective of historiographical interpretation, whose historiographical method was articulated with historical-dialectical and ethnographic methods. Thus, the need for security agencies to bring the community closer together through the improvement of existing mechanisms of social participation is evident.
