Amelioration of mechanical behavior of carbon fiber-reinforced geopolymer using Nano-Al2O3
The demand for cement replacement in the construction industry has surged recently due to the need for a sustainable environment, driven by the significant carbon footprint associated with cement production. Therefore, improving the performance of fiber-reinforced (FR) geopolymer (GPL) pastes through the incorporation of NP is crucial for their sustainable practical applications. This study aims to enhance the mechanical properties of micro carbon-FR GPL mixes by integrating various dosages of nano alumina (NALO). Four NALO dosages (1%, 2%, 3%, and 4% by weight) were used to create GPL mixes with a consistent dosage of micro carbon fibers (CF). For comparison, a control paste containing 0.5% micro carbon fibers without NALO was also prepared. Flexural strength (FLS) of the mixtures increased with up to 2% NALO content before a decline in FLS was observed. However, the addition of 3% and 4% NALO particles led to a reduction in FLS, although it remained above that of the control mix. However, the findings of this study revealed that the addition of 3% NALO to the carbon-FR-GPL mix produced the best results for the mechanical properties of FR-GPL.
