A Case of Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans on the Upper Neck
Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is a rare fibroblastic tumor that has a high local recurrence rate and low metastatic potential. Due to the small patient population of DFSP, there is no established protocol for its diagnosis and treatment, and prognosis has not been sufficiently studied. Therefore, DFSP is often initially misdiagnosed for a benign skin lesion, and various treatment methods have been used in reported previous DFSP cases. The authors also experienced a case of DFSP that had been misdiagnosed first as a subcutaneous benign tumor on the right upper neck; it was eventually removed by wide local excision. A year and 3 months have passed since the excision, and we hereby report the diagnosis, treatment process, and prognosis to contribute to establishing a treatment protocol.
