Calculating Airport and Airspace Capacities By Using Complex Network Arguments
As the aviation industry expands, airports must also grow, presenting challenges in optimizing flight capacities under various scenarios for managers, air traffic controllers, and flight planners. Evaluating capacity merely as an airport-specific parameter is insufficient, as airspace capacities play a crucial role in the broader context. This paper introduces a novel model that views airports and airspaces as an interconnected network, calculating capacities under diverse scenarios such as low visibility conditions and air traffic control strikes. This approach enables proactive measures to mitigate potential flight disruptions. The model estimates flight frequencies between specific airports based on these calculated capacities. Our experimental results indicate that the model is effective in both capacity calculation and flight frequency estimation. Additionally, the model’s ability to anticipate and adjust for varying conditions ensures a more resilient and adaptable aviation network. By providing a comprehensive understanding of both airport and airspace capacities, it facilitates better decision-making and strategic planning.
