Carbonation of composites with recycled aggregate subjected to carbon dioxide sequestration process

In light of the growing issue of climate change, it is necessary to take actions aimed at reducing the emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere. CO2 sequestration, especially in the process of concrete production, can be a crucial step in combating this phenomenon. The study attempted to utilize recycled aggregate for CO2 sequestration and assess its effect on the carbonation depth of the mortar. The loss on ignition analysis of the aggregate showed a 2.9% CO2 absorption. Mortar with carbonated aggregate exhibited the highest degree and depth of carbonation among the tested specimens, albeit eight times lower than the depth typically containing reinforcement bars
