Facial oedema and necrotic ulcers: a cutaneous reaction to liraglutide

Owing to rising obesity rates, new drugs like liraglutide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist, are increasingly used for weight loss. While liraglutide-related skin reactions are rare, this case report describes a 44-year-old man with severe facial oedema and necrotic ulcers following liraglutide administration. Despite having taken the drug 5 years earlier without issue, the patient developed symptoms after receiving two doses. A skin biopsy revealed necrosis and inflammation, and the condition was successfully treated with steroids. The report underscores the need to consider cutaneous adverse effects in patients using liraglutide.
