Importance of Causation in Traumatic Osteoarthritis of Knee: An Evidence Based Case Report.
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a common musculoskeletal condition worldwide, impacting patient well-being and healthcare costs. This case study details a patient in India with developing OA due to traumatic past history of injury, discussing key clinical features, diagnostic methods, and treatment options and scope of successful homoeopathic intervention. This study presents a comparative analysis of two distinct reportorial methods employed in the selection of homeopathic remedies for two individual cases, both with a past traumatic history of injury (exclusion criteria for selection of patient table 1A) The first participant’s (Male, 53 Years) remedy selection was guided by the reportorial method of elimination, focusing prominently on rubrics derived from past history of injury. Through meticulous analysis, ‘SULPHURICUM ACIDUM’ emerged as the most indicated remedy, reflecting the individual’s unique symptomatology and constitution. In contrast, the second participant’s (58 Years) Male, remedy selection followed the reportorial method of totality, wherein past history of injury was not considered as a prominent rubric. This approach aimed to holistically capture the entirety of symptoms presented by the individual, leading to the identification of a remedy that corresponded closely with their overall symptom picture. The cases underscored the efficacy of both methodologies in different clinical contexts. The method of elimination highlighted the significance of past injury as a key rubric in selecting a constitutional remedy like ‘SULPHURICUM ACIDUM’, while the method of totality demonstrated its utility in encompassing a broader spectrum of symptoms to identify a well-indicated remedy ‘BENZOICUM ACIDUM’. This comparative study contributes to the ongoing discourse within homeopathic practice, emphasizing the nuanced application of reportorial methods tailored to individual case presentations. It underscores the importance of methodological flexibility and clinical judgment in achieving optimal therapeutic outcomes in homeopathic treatment. Treatment involved a holistic approach, combining non-pharmacological methods like weight management, exercise, and assistive devices with medications like acetaminophen and topical NSAIDs for pain relief. Despite initial improvement, the patient required corticosteroid injections for persistent pain and physical therapy for muscle and joint support. Long-term care included regular monitoring, lifestyle adjustments, and patient education on self-managing OA. This case highlights the complexities of managing OA in India and stresses the need for early detection, diverse treatment strategies, and ongoing patient care.
