Study on the high-temperature oxidative wear behaviors of Inconel 690 and Hastelloy N alloys in a simulated rotary calcination furnace environment
Given the important role of rotary calcination furnaces in the immobilization process of nuclear waste and the fact that few researches focused on the materials used inside the furnace, this paper studied the oxidative wear behaviors and mechanisms of Inconel 690 and Hastelloy N alloys at 600 and 800 ℃ by using a specially designed high-temperature friction and wear testing machine. The results reveal that Inconel 690 forms an oxide film characterized by a double-layer structure after wearing at 800 ℃. The continuous Cr 2 O 3 inner layer plays a crucial protective role for the substrate, which results in the better oxidative wear resistance for Inconel 690 at 800 ℃ than at 600 ℃. In contrast, the loose and porous Mo-O layers formed on the surface of Hastelloy N alloy after wearing at both 600 and 800 ℃ are responsible for its poorer oxidative wear resistance than Inconel 690 alloy.
