Cell death process associated with the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system

The renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) is a crucial regulator of blood pressure and fluid balance. This metabolic pathway plays an important role in the genesis of cardiovascular and renal diseases. This review explores the relationship between RAAS activation and cell death processes such as apoptosis, necrosis, necroptosis, ferroptosis, and autophagy. Therefore, a literature search was carried out in PubMed, Science Direct, Scielo, and Google Scholar databases.Articles from the last years (2017-2022) were selected using keywords such as "RAAS", "Angiotensin II", "Cell death", and/or "Kidney injury". Conclusion:The RAAS, known mainly for its cardiovascular and renal roles, also plays a significant role in cell death processes.Understanding these connections may lead to new therapeutic strategies for the management of cardiovascular and renal diseases.
