Respiratory failure and rhabdomyolysis caused by severe hypokalemia in a young female with hypertension: a rare critical condition in primary aldosteronism
Respiratory depression to the extent of impending respiratory failure and rhabdomyolysis as a result of hypokalemia in primary aldosteronism are extremely rare. In this patient, who developed respiratory depression due to resistant hypokalemia, timely investigation of secondary causes and diagnosis of adrenal adenoma were crucial. The surgery provided definitive treatment for the patient's blood pressure and prevented the recurrence of life-threatening complications.
