Accelerating scalable manufacturing models with Discrete Event Simulation as-a-service

Computationally processing industrial manufacturing simulations at scale can be time-consuming. Thus, in an epoch where high-performance and real-time computing continue to ascend globally in the manufacturing sector, acceleration concepts and mechanisms for such simulations are widely sought after. This paper presents how a scalable production-line discrete-event simulation is capable of being accelerated by virtue of on-demand client-server workload distribution in a cloud-edge factory environment, namely: Discrete Event Simulation as-a-service. Rather than a factory purchasing, installing and maintaining a server of limited CPU cores on-site, the client commits requests to and shares workloads with an Amazon Cloud server over an internet connection, yielding high execution-time speed-ups and a more versatile and efficient style of simulation management.
