Relationship between Musculoskeletal Disorders and the Work Ability in the Post Office Employee

Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between musculoskeletal disorders and the work ability in the post office employee.
Background: Post office workers who have musculoskeletal disorders are rapidly increasing because of performing a lot of simple repetitive tasks such as manual sorting. Work ability is affected by job stress, musculoskeletal diseases, and cardiovascular diseases.
Method: This study recruited subjects who voluntarily agreed to participate in the study among postal workers working at a post office in metropolitan city B. The general characteristics, musculoskeletal disease status, and work ability of the study subjects were evaluated.
Results: There was a correlation between work ability and pain duration, pain intensity, pain frequency, current pain status. However, there was no correlation between work ability and pain, treatment status. Therefore, in cases of musculoskeletal disease where the duration of pain is long, the frequency of pain is high, and there is current pain, work ability tends to decrease.
Conclusion: In the case of post office workers, it was found that there was a correlation with work ability in the order of pain frequency, presence of current symptoms, pain intensity, and pain duration in musculoskeletal disorders.
Application: The results of this study can be used as basic data to improve the work ability of post office workers and to efficiently prevent and manage musculoskeletal disorders.
