Anti‐transgender laws have large impact on youth suicide rate, according to research
States that passed anti‐trans laws aimed at minors and young adults saw suicide attempts by transgender and gender‐nonconforming teenagers increase by as much as 72% in the years after the legislation passed, according to a new study by The Trevor Project. Between 2018 and 2022, 19 states passed 48 different anti‐transgender laws (as defined by The Trevor Project, “laws that restrict the rights of transgender and non‐binary people”).
