CdS Supporting the Growth of Cd-TCPP(Pt) for High Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution Rates under Visible Light and Sunlight
Photocatalysis is a process that utilizes light to produce valuable chemical agents such as H2, CO, and NH3. However, the limited utilization of photoinduced carriers and high energy barriers for proton reduction have impeded the progress of photocatalytic reactions. In this study, we in situ grew single-atom Pt sites containing 2D MOF on CdS to form CdS@2D porphyrin-based metal–organic frameworks (PMOF). The CdS@Cd-TCPP(Pt)-3 catalyst exhibits an enhanced hydrogen evolution activity of 38 mmol/g/h (≥420 nm) with high chemical stability, surpassing pure CdS by a whopping 17.25 times. The mechanism is studied with free energy and ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) calculation, revealing the process of proton reduction and hydrogen evolution. These findings open possibilities for the development of enhanced activity for CdS/MOF photocatalyst system, addressing the current limitations and advancing the field of solar energy conversion.
