Assessing the Impact of Climate Change on Medicinal Plants: Strategies for Sustainable Management
Climate change poses a significant threat to biodiversity, especially to medicinal plants. Because these plants, which serve as vital resources for traditional and modern medicine, are highly susceptible to environmental changes. This review article examines the multi-dimensional impact of climate change on medicinal plants, including alterations in their growth, distribution, phenology, and phytochemical composition. Also, it explores the effects on the medicinal plant ecosystem and the potential loss of valuable genetic resources. In response to these challenges, various strategies for the management and conservation of medicinal plants are discussed. This includes in-situ and ex-situ conservation methods, sustainable harvesting practices, and the use of biotechnology for the preservation of genetic diversity. Additionally, the article highlights the role of traditional knowledge and community-based approaches in mitigating the adverse effects of climate change. By systematically organizing literature on this topic and proposing future directions, this review aims to provide a comprehensive understanding between climate change and medicinal plants, ultimately helps in developing effective conservation and management strategies.
