Perovskite Solar Cell Fabric Increases Remote Exercise Accessibility

The feeling of safety is essential when exercising, especially when partaking in activities such as hiking along scenic trails. Regardless of age, many individuals therefore use mobile devices as a means of protection, taking photos, using GPS features to avoid getting lost, and calling important contacts or emergency services in the event of injury. As such, backup chargers have become essential for many hikers, adding to the weight carried and potentially limiting exercise intensity. Institutions such as MIT, however, have begun producing a feasible alternative known as Perovskite solar cell (PSC) fabric, which is expected to be released on the consumer market by 2029. This state-of-the-art method of incorporating solar cells into textiles enables the charging of handheld devices by clothing using solar energy, replacing alternatives such as portable chargers.
