Relational GIS database for monitoring dams and weirs: structure and organization of data

The paper is devoted to the analysis of the structure of the GIS relational database developed by the authors. The database is intended to support and document monitoring of dams located on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The paper discusses issues of organizing and recording data. The issue of data structure in the case of a “many-to-many” relationship, characteristic of many database objects, is separately considered. Various possibilities for implementing this relation in tables are shown, a compara- tive analysis of the volume of tables and the speed of execution of sampling queries is carried out.
