An ultrasound-guided cannulation course for the multidisciplinary team
Introduction: Peripheral venous cannulation (PVC) is a common clinical procedure and may sometimes be difficult for several reasons.1 Evidence suggests that ultrasound guidance may improve first attempt success rates.2 This is a skill that is often used by experienced clinicians and anaesthetists but may not be a core skill for members of the multidisciplinary team (MDT). The more junior members of the medical team, nurse/advanced practitioners (NPs/ANPs), and physician associates (PAs) are likely to be the first clinicians to attempt PVC.
