Opioid stewardship amongst patients undergoing major robotic surgery at Eastbourne District General Hospital: an audit and quality improvement project
Introduction: Although opioids are useful in the management of postoperative pain, they are a significant source of new persistent opioid use.1 Modified-release (MR) opioids have no role in modern practice with higher rates of persistent use, difficult titration, and association with ventilatory impairment and increased hospital stay.2 National recommendations have been published in the form of a multiorganisational and multidisciplinary consensus on how best to use opioids in the perioperative period.
