Research hotspots and trend of puerarin based on bibliometric analysis

Objective: This study aims to delineate the mounting trends in the application of puerarin and provide insights for future research. Method: Relevant literature were firstly screened from the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) on puerarin, followed by analyses on the research trends in multiple aspects using VOSviewer 1.6.20. Results: A total of 1,943 publications on puerarin were identified, with "puerarin" being the most frequently occurring keyword, demonstrating a total link strength of 6,106 and showing strong associations with "oxidative stress" and "apoptosis." Publications in this field originated from 59 countries and regions, with China leading the output with 1,576 articles and USA along with South Korea being the main collaborators of China. The top seven institutions with the highest publication counts are all based in China, with Beijing University of Chinese Medicine being the most prolific. The mean citation count for these leading authors was 14.43, with a range of 13 to 19. The author with the highest average citation rate published four articles, accumulating a total of 490 citations. Frontiers in Pharmacology was the leading journal in terms of publications, with 42 articles, while the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry was the most cited, with 1,634 citations. Conclusions: This paper presents a bibliometric analysis to identify current research focuses and development trends related to puerarin.
