The Effects of Adolescents' Academic helplessness and Attention on Smartphone Dependence
This study aims to examine the effects of adolescents’ academic apathy and attention deficit on smartphone dependence. The purpose of this study is to provide basic data and methods for inducing adolescents’ academic enthusiasm, attention deficit, and healthy smartphone use. This study utilized the items of academic apathy, attention deficit, and smartphone dependence from the 5th year survey data of the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey. The study subjects were 2,243 high school seniors. The following results were derived by conducting frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, Pearson’s correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis using SPSS 26.0. First, academic apathy was found to have a significant effect on smartphone dependence. Second, attention deficit was found to have a significant effect on smartphone dependence. Based on the research results, we suggest the need for providing a wide range of policies and programs to reduce adolescents’ academic apathy and improve attention deficit, which affect adolescents’ smartphone dependence.
