Investigation of the influence of the addition of graphene oxide nanoparticles in mortars made with the addition of silica fume, marble powder and fibers from the crushing of the N95 face masks

The potential for reusing different waste in building material manufacture has been extensively explored in recent years, reducing their disposal and the natural resources consumption. The main objective of this research is to investigate the advantage of adding graphene oxide nanoparticles (GON) to a mortar made with Portland cement, sand, silica fume, marble powder, and the addition of polymeric fibers (obtained through crushing of the N-95 facial protection mask (FM)). The experimental program added 0%, 0.7%, 1.4%, 2.0% FM, and 0.02% GON (both about the cement weight) in the mortars, which were investigated for their physical, mechanical, and chemical properties. The results indicate the possibility of 0.7% FM since it has GON addition. Finally, the GON addition in mortars will allow the addition of other types of recycled polymeric fibers.
