Role of the Right Frontopolar Cortex Stimulation in Extracting Alternative Strategies in Decision-Making: tDCS Study

This study explores neural correlates of decision-making processes under uncertainty. While previous research based on «cascade model» of Koechlin et al. relied on neuroimaging methods resulting in correlational conclusion, our approach utilizes brain stimulation methods to experimentally examine causal relationships. We specifically targeted the frontopolar cortex, hypothesizing it plays a crucial role in storing the alternative strategies in decison-making process. The results from our stimulation study suggest the inhibition of right frontopolar cortex leads to higher frequency of correct responses. Future research will focus on refining these findings and further elaborating on the neural dynamics involved in decision-making under uncertainty. Our findings also suggest potential implementation in practical setting, such as enhancing decision-making accuracy in high-stakes environments.
