Aspects of Dependability and Security in Integrated Intelligent Educational Environments

Intelligent Educational Systems enter the traditional educational environment and become part of the instructional process. They encompass, among others, modern technologies, educational resources, and pedagogical innovations. Recently, with the introduction of Internet-of-Things devices, Integrated Intelligent Educational Environments (1IEEs) are discussed. This paper considers the technological part of the IIEE and specifically the aspects of dependability and security. Information and communication technologies (ICT) facilitate education by providing teaching resources, communication media, access to databases, information, etc. These ICT-related channels must be reliable and secure from day one of their implementation. This paper reveals some specific aspects and sheds light on some underrepresented topics by introducing two conceptual models - one of an IIEE considering dependability and security issues and one of the relationships between dependability and security aspects and IIEE.
