Effect of Endogenous Expression of the Neurotrophic Factor BDNF on Epileptiform Activity
Epilepsy is a neurological disease of the central nervous system with a multidisciplinary and complex pathogenesis affecting approximately 0.76% of the population. The presence of concomitant cognitive and mental disorders in patients, as well as resistance to pharmacotherapy, brings the existing problem of epilepsy treatment to a new level. To date, it has been proven that a chronic increase in BDNF levels has a persistent anticonvulsant effect, but the issue of ensuring it with minimal risk of side effects remains unresolved. This study focuses on the development of gene therapy for epilepsy based on adeno-associated viral vectors aimed at activating specific neuroprotective mechanisms.
