Framework for Evaluation of Authentication and Proof-of-Event mechanisms in Smart Contracts

This paper proposes framework for evaluation of authentication and proof-of-event mechanisms in smart contracts, integrated into a platform for information and data exchange in smart crop production. The platform leverages blockchain technology, IoT devices and decentralized storage solutions. The framework provides an approach for evaluating and enhancing the platform to meet the standards required for reliable and secure data management. The implementation of the framework is illustrated by tests. The blockchain performance tests demonstrated the platform's ability to handle large transaction volumes and real-time data processing and indicate that it has sufficient margin for scalability. The authentication tests involved verifying permission checks for five smart contract using authorized and unauthorized accounts. Authentication tests confirmed the reliability of the role-based access control model by showing that authorized accounts could consistently perform the specified actions, while unauthorized accounts were denied access. The proof-of-event tests were focused on ensuring that timestamps for specific actions were recorded immutably and matched the actual event times. Four smart contracts were tested. The tests showed precise timestamping and accurate event logging, ensuring the reliability and immutability of the recorded events. Future developments will focus on improving scalability, integrating machine learning to detect anomalies in IoT sensor readings, and improving user interfaces and analytical instruments.
