Cardioceptive Accuracy and Indicators of Psychological Status
Over recent years, there has been a growing interest in the investigation of cardioceptive accuracy' which characterizes the individual's ability to perceive their own heartbeat, One of the trends in the field is the examination of the relationship between cardioception and psychological characteristics. In the study, 46 healthy volunteers performed in mental tracking (Schandry task) and heartbeat detection tests to assess their cardioception ability. The questionnaires were used to assess participants' psychological traits such as state and trait anxiety, depression, alexithymia, and body awareness. Correlation analysis demon. strated no significant relationships between cardioceptive accu … racy and psychological characteristies. These findings. suggest that cardioception may not be a necessary ability for normal psychological functioning among healthy individuals.
