A RELAÇÃO ENTRE A INCONTINÊNCIA URINÁRIA E A DOR LOMBAR EM MULHERES PÓS PARTO: UMA REVISÃO SISTEMÁTICA
Introduction: International Continence Society as the involuntary loss of urine, affecting about 50% of women, especially during pregnancy and postpartum. This condition is associated with problems in bladder function and pelvic floor, negatively impacting quality of life and causing social exclusion. The most common symptoms include stress urinary incontinence and urgency incontinence, which can arise due to factors such as pressure from the fetus and nerve damage during childbirth. Additionally, low back pain (LBP), frequently reported by pregnant women, worsens postpartum, with an incidence ranging from 24% to 90%. This study aims to analyze the relationship between UI and LBP in the postpartum period, emphasizing the importance of identifying risk factors for effective management and improvement of women’s health, as well as contributing to the early detection and treatment of these interrelated conditions. Method: A systematic review. To achieve these objectives, searches were conducted in the electronic databases PUBmed, PEDro, ScieLo, LILACS, and the Virtual Health Library for articles published between 2004 and 2024, in English and Portuguese. After a thorough analysis of the articles, studies were selected for this systematic review. Results: A total of 391 articles were found; however, they addressed the correlation between low back pain and urinary incontinence postpartum in different ways. Articles that did not meet the inclusion criteria were excluded, while those that aligned with the investigated topic were retained. After reading and evaluating the articles, 6 were selected for the results and discussion. The results indicate that the presence of UI increases the risk of developing LBP, highlighting the importance of understanding this interrelationship for effective management of these conditions. Conclusion: A significant relationship between low back pain and urinary incontinence in postpartum women is observed. This phenomenon can be explained by physiological and biomechanical factors inherent to the childbirth process. Future studies are necessary to further explore the mechanisms involved and the factors that may mediate this relationship.
