Motions and Slamming Factors Comparison for a Medium-Sized Semi-Displacement Vessel
Recent interest in building larger semi-displacement vessels necessitated the utilization of potential flow seakeeping codes to predict global hull girder loads. While most of these codes have been validated in the displacement regime, many have not been validated in the higher speed regimes due to the lack of model test data. This paper presents a qualitative comparison of the motion and global hull girder loads of a semi-displacement vessel between hydro-elastic model test data and numerical simulation results. The comparison is performed for heave and pitch motions as well as vertical bending moment (VBM) in the displacement, semi-displacement and semi-planing speed regimes.
