Quasi-Interdigitated Back-Contact Perovskite Solar Cells with Enhanced Light Confinement
Quasi-interdigitated back-contact (QIBC) perovskite solar cells (PSCs) possess unique optical structures for greater light harvesting potential than planar sandwich PSCs. However, this potential has not been fully fulfilled due to the lack of effective back contact designs for QIBC-PSCs. Herein, the newly devised structure features an enhanced light confinement on the back contact of the QIBC-PSCs, named back contact light confinement (BCLC), and facilitates significant efficiency improvement because of higher carrier generation rate and light utilization rate. The numerical simulation investigated the effectiveness of the BCLC on the performance of PSCs and revealed an improved power conversion efficiency of an absolute 1.9% after optimization compared to conventional QIBC-PSCs. Additionally, the BCLC exhibits universal applicability in two-terminal tandem solar cells. This work pioneers a new strategy to fabricate high-efficiency QIBC-PSCs and underscores the potential of back contact design in advancing PSCs technology.
