Enhanced LEACH for Improving Lifespan of Hierarchical Wireless Sensor Networks
One of the most often chosen services for use in the technical sector, in applications in industries, or in the marketplace is wireless sensor networks. Important considerations when developing suitable sensor network wireless routing algorithms is energy required to transport data from sensor's node to their destination. In this paper, an improvised version of “Low energy adaptive clustering hierarchy” called Enhanced LEACH is proposed. It defies limitations of traditional LEACH and enhances lifespan of the network. LEACH does not allow the sensor nodes which had been cluster heads in the previous rounds despite having energy beyond the threshold value. Enhanced LEACH allows all sensor nodes to participate in cluster head election technique by not differentiating sensor nodes which were selected as cluster nodes in previous rounds. Thereby considering sensor nodes based on their energy remaining in election of cluster head. Simulation results obtained has a clear advantage for proposed protocol in terms of dead nodes and packets delivered to base station and cluster heads.
