Ultra-Wideband Vivaldi Antenna for Through-Wall-Radar Applications
This paper presents the design of a Vivaldi Antenna fed by a microstrip-to-slotline transition for Through-The-Wall Radar Systems Applications. Nowadays, are present a vast number of antennas with Ultra-Wideband (UWB) behavior, although Vivaldi antennas are superior due to their broad bandwidth, high gain, directional radiation pattern and also their capability of being a discrete antenna in terms of size and volume. Through comparative, this paper highlights a Vivaldi antenna with a operating frequency from 1 GHz to 11.4 GHz. This antenna is design on a FR4 substrate with a thickness of approximately 1.3 mm. The proposed antenna shows a stable end-fire radiation from 1 GHz to 9 GHz. The peak gain obtained was of 10.18 dBi and the simulated gain is larger than 4 dBi from 1 GHz to 8 GHz. The Vivaldi antenna present is design and simulated for different parameters in order to study their impact on the antenna performance. The input impedance and the impact of the parameters on the reflection coefficient plots are also shown and analysed.
