High-Performance Discontinuous Galerkin Time-Domain Method for the Analysis of Electromagnetic Resonant Modes

In electromagnetic (EM) cavities, the resonant frequencies and cavity eigenmodes play an important role in understanding and analyzing the properties of cavity EM fields. This research aims to investigate a high-performance time-domain (TD) numerical method for analyzing EM resonant frequencies and their associated eigenmodes in cavities. Compared to frequency-domain (FD) solvers, the TD simulation is a natural candidate for understanding the broadband analysis of complex cavity enclosures. Nevertheless, due to the high Q-factor of the cavity, it takes a very long time for the EM energy to decay after being coupled into the cavity. Moreover, for large cavities with closely spaced resonances, an even longer simulation is required to resolve nearby resonance peaks.
