Full-metal metasurface for surface wave tailoring
This paper presents the design of a low-profile inductive surface using metallic mushroom structures at L-band frequencies. The goal is to achieve an efficient surface wave excitation from the metasurface when it is placed in the near environment of a radiating monopole antenna. Simulation results show that the proposed full-metal metasurface exhibits an increase of 9 dB in the vertical electrical field at its output end and above the ground. Thanks to the absence of lossy dielectric material, this study is a first step towards the implementation of easy-to-fabricate metasurfaces in High Frequency Surface Wave Radars (HFSWR).
