A Multi-band Slot-Coupled Rectangular Dielectric Resonator Antenna Using E-Coupling Technique
This paper explores a slot-coupled rectangular dielectric resonator antenna (RDRA) for multi-band functionality. Based on the dielectric waveguide model (DWM), this study estimates resonant frequencies and field patterns of the RDRA modes for modal analysis. By identifying the common characteristic of the required modes, an E-coupling technique is introduced for the mode excitation through adjusting the position of the rectangular slot and open stub length of the microstrip feed line. A series of RDRA modes, including both odd and even modes are simultaneously excited by using this method. A prototype of the RDRA system is fabricated and tested. The reflection coefficients, realized gain, and 3D radiation patterns are measured and reasonable agreement between simulation and measurement results is observed.
