Using Discharge Current Measurements in Risk Assessments

ANSI/ESD SP17.1 document gives guidance evaluating manufacturing processes to determine ESD risks. Capturing the actual discharge waveform is recommended as the most direct parameter to assess the ESD risk. This paper briefly summarizes the document’s guidelines of risk analysis based on discharge-current measurements and shows by examples how this concept is used by an ESD coordinator in some specific situations.

Abstract

ANSI/ESD SP17.1 document gives guidance evaluating manufacturing processes to determine ESD risks. Capturing the actual discharge waveform is recommended as the most direct parameter to assess the ESD risk. This paper briefly summarizes the document’s guidelines of risk analysis based on discharge-current measurements and shows by examples how this concept is used by an ESD coordinator in some specific situations.
