Using Non-Thermal Electromagnetic Radiation to Track and Characterize Space Debris
The Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity’s (IARPA) Space Debris Identification and Tracking (SINTRA) program seeks to understand the interaction of orbital debris with the surrounding space environment to determine if this interaction can be used to detect, track, and characterize potentially lethal but currently nontrackable orbital space debris [1]. Our IARPA-funded project seeks to primarily mature the concept that non-thermal electromagnetic radiation (NTEM) generated by colliding debris can meet some of these goals.
