High-Gain and Broadband Microstrip Antenna using Triple-Slotted Mechanism for 5G Millimeter-Wave Applications

In this article, a compact high-gain and broadband antenna, resonating at 24.10 GHz and 26.10 GHz, is discussed for millimeter-wave power transfer and energy harvesting applications. The proposed antenna geometry is very simple, consisting of a rectangular patch incorporated with triple-slots on the rectangular radiating surface. By doing so, higher gain values $(9.14 \mathrm{dBi}$ and 8.05 dBi) and a broader bandwidth of 3.81 GHz are achieved. Also, the radiation pattern is found to be stable and unidirectional. A 50-$\Omega$ microstrip line is used to excite the proposed antenna and designed on the Rogers RT Duroid 4003TM substrate (relative permittivity $= 3.38$, thickness $=0.508 \mathrm{~mm}$, and loss tangent $=0.0021$). The antenna has an overall compact size of $6 \times 12.4 \times 0.8 \mathrm{~mm}^{3}$ satisfying the requirements of a compact millimeter-wave communication system.
